Week 3 Results
By Fergal Carroll
Week 3 of the XLMS season and boy was it a doozy. Not a single winner for our five remaining players. Let’s dive into the action.
The Picks
Only one team, the Buccaneers, had more than one selection while the Raiders, 49ers and Bengals each had a single selection.
The Bengals continue to cause mayhem and look to be runaway favourites for the XLMS Team of the Season.
QB Who?
Baker Mayfield entered Week 3 as the QB1 on the season but a stern Broncos defence limited him to 163 yards and only 1 TD. Denver’s rookie QB Bo Nix got his NFL win to put both Eoin and Gary to the sword in XLMS. 7 sacks on the day for the Broncos defence meant that Mayfield never got going, eliminating both Eoin and Gary along the way.
The Rams Turn It Around
John backed the 49ers to get the job done this weekend against a heavily depleted Rams team. The 49ers themselves were missing some big players in CMC, Deebo Samuel and TE George Kittle but it didn’t seem to matter as the 49ers raced into a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter. WR Jauan Jennings finished the day with 11 catches for 175 yards and 3 TDS. The Rams mounted an impressive comeback via Kyren Wiliams, who got 3 TDs himself, as the Rams scored a walk off FG to win the game 24-27. John lives to see another day as he had his buyback available.
Dalton Delights
Not content with becoming the whipping boys of the XLMS, the Carolina Panthers named Andy Dalton their QB1 last week. The Red Rifle completed 23/37 passes for 319 yards and 3 TDs as the Panthers came away with a 36-22 road win against the Raiders. The Panthers looking competent while doing so. A big leap from Week 1 & 2 performances. Kev picked the wrong time to join the Minshew Mania. With no buybacks left, he is eliminated.
Jack Keeps Us Waiting
With the very last game of the NFL week 3 schedule, Jack opted to back his Bengals to get the job done at home against the Washington Commanders. The Bengals dismal start to the season continues as the Commanders emerged victorious with a 38-33 win. Rookie QB Jayden Daniels put in an impressive performance, looking assured as he completed 21 of 24 passes for 254 yards and 2 TDs. He added a rushing TD for good measure. Its mixed emotions for Jack, delighted with Cincinnati’s loss in Week 1, he will be rueing this loss that means he must use up his buyback.
Goodbye
That last loss means that it was a clean sweep of losses this week. The XMLS is largely a dead competition now, mainly due to it’s gravely competitive nature.
Week 4
That all means we are down to the final two! The Bengals will be looking to claim another victim, watch out John!
